“CAN THE BIBLE CHANGE ME?” PEACE

MATTHEW 11:28-30

The greatest man who ever lived or will ever live is the Lord Jesus Christ. He stands monumentally in contrast against the deplorable backdrop of fallen and depraved humanity. God become man, unique and all powerful authority.

The historian Philip Schaff (The Person of Christ, American Tract Society, 1913) vividly describes its uniqueness along with its Savior: “This Jesus of Nazareth, without money and arms, conquered more millions than Alexander, Caesar, Mohammed, and Napolean; without science and learning, He shed more light on things human and divine than all philosophers and scholars combined; without the eloquence of schools, He spoke such words or life as were never spoken before or since, and produced effects which lie beyond the reach of orator or poet; without writing a single line, He set more pens in motion, and furnished themes for more sermons, orations, discussions, learned volumes, works of art, and songs of praise than the whole army of great men of ancient and modern times.”

His present influence is no less amazing:

Kenneth Scott Latourette (A History of Christianity, Harper and Row, 1953), former Yale historian, says:

“It is evidence of his importance, of the effect that he has had upon history and presumably, of the baffling mystery of his being that no other life ever lived on this planet has evoked so huge a volume of literature among so many peoples and languages, and that, far from ebbing, the flood continues to mount.” 28/44

And what did He have to say? Christ belived and demonstrated that scriptures were sufficient to know– Origin – Divine creation Purpose – Meaning of Life Destiny – Plan of Ages Beyond

In them He taught we can find: Hope of Resurrection Peace in Affliction Joy in Daily Living

He pointed out: Purpose in handicap and disease Triumph out of death Restoration in spite of defeat

But He rearlessly confronted any who would not submit

Justin Martyr, born Samaria 100 A.D., saved 132 A.D., died 165 A.D. Living only 70 years after Christ in a town only 37 miles from Nazareth where Jesus Christ lived for nearly 30 years.

Justin wrote as an eye witness to Nazareth that Jesus Christ the carpenter was a renowned woodworker. His most well known product is described in Mt. 11:28-30 — yokes.

This morning, Jesus Christ believed the Scriptures have an answer for the deepest need of your soul — rest from restlessness. Before salvation we were like the troubled sea. Sometimes we struggle again with a lack of abiding peace. Look with me as Jesus Christ uses the Scripture (Jer. 6:16) to answer! He outlines 7 stages in the journey to rest: A. Come unto me” to the source – Psalm 23 B. Realize your condition “all who labor” C. Believe (obey now) His promise “ye shall find” D. Enter into discipleship “take” – Mt. 16:24; 19:21 E. Emulate the Master “meek and lowly” – Ps. 84:3 F. Target the need “rest” – hunting with Dad, shoot air G. Accept the price “yoke and load” – 1 Jn. 5:3; Jn. 14:21 – rules
