God’s Hand Through Prayer

How to Hold God's Hand

First, We Magnify His Name

Migrate into a group small enough to make a circle and be able to hear each other praying, reading, and sharing. Then, using this sheet go around and pick any of these names of God and say them aloud as a personal declaration, like this: “God You are Elohim, My Creator”.

God You Are: Elohim (My Creator):  Genesis 1:1

God You Are: El Shaddai (My God Who is Enough):  Genesis 17:1

God You Are: El Elyon (My Most High God):  Genesis 14:20

God You Are: Adonai (My Lord & Master): Genesis 15:6

God You Are: Jehovah (My Everlasting God): Exodus 3:14

God You Are: Jehovah-Jireh (My Everlasting Provider): Genesis 22:14

God You Are: Jehovah-Rapha (My Everlasting Healer): Exodus 15:26

God You Are: Jehovah-Raah (My Everlasting Shepherd): Psalm 23:1

God You Are: Jehovah-Tsidkenu (My Everlasting Righteousness): Jeremiah 23:6

God You Are: Jehovah-Shalom (My Everlasting Peace): Judges 6:23-24

God You Are: Jehovah-Mekoddishkem (My Everlasting Sanctifier): Exodus 31:12-13

Second, We Hold Onto His Attributes

After magnifying His Name, now each of you around the circle share just one area of life you would like to ask for God’s help: such as a job search, a parenting need, a marriage need, a family struggle, a work struggle, a health struggle, a financial struggle, etc.

Say this aloud to your circle: “I would like God’s help with my: _______.

Now one-by-one go around the circle, and take turns reading the declaration: “God You are…, and then plugging your personal needs into the prayer that follows. Read that prayer aloud in front of your circle, but directed towards God.

As you pray, you are asking God to teach you more about how to cling by faith to His Power as Your Almighty Lord.

God You Are: Self-Existent. (John 1:1-3)

We come to You who are before all things, You who made all things, You who have no limitations: we are but dust and vapor, so weak and helpless, we cling to Your greatness and power. Lord, I am asking for Your help right now in trusting You with my: __________.

God You Are: Self-Sufficient. (John 5:26; Colossians 1:16-17)

We come before You who never need sleep, food, security, or protection: we need Your protection. You sustain all things: we need Your sustenance. You hold the Universe together from sub-atomic particles to the furthest clusters of galaxies: we need to place all our cares, concerns, struggles, and fears into Your Hands that can hold us and all our problems. I place my ____ before You.

God You Are: Eternal. (Deut. 33:27; Psalm 45:6; Psalm 90:2; 1 Tim. 1:17; Rev. 4:8)

We bow before You Who alone are the source of life: we are weak and temporary: we need Your life giving power to renew our minds, to revive our hearts, and to increase our faith so that we can honor and glorify You with our thoughts, words, and deeds. Help us, our Eternal King.

God You Are: All-Powerful. (Jeremiah 32:17; Habakkuk 3:4; Ephesians 3:20; Hebrews 1:3)

We bring our problems to You knowing that nothing is too hard for You, as the Majesty on High. You can do anything, so we place at Your Feet all our burdens, struggles, problems, and fears. Give us the faith to trust in You as Almighty God.

God You Are: All-Wise. (Proverbs 2:6; 3:19; Colossians 2:2-3; Revelation 7:12)

God we come wanting to trust You more, because You know all things, see all things, and at this instant know everything that has ever happened in our life up to this moment. Give us faith to trust Your plan that You have for our lives. Help us to follow that plan a little more each day. We declare that You know what is best, we will follow You. Help me surrender my ___ to You.

God You Are: All-Knowing. (Psalm 33:13; 147:5; Romans 11:33; Hebrews 4:13)

We look to You who know everything completely at all times, so we do not need to fear. There is nothing that escapes Your notice, so we do not need to be anxious, but cast all of our cares on You. Teach us what it means to trust You. Teach us how to roll our burdens upon You and allow You to sustain us. I am right now by faith rolling my ___ burden onto You my Lord.

God You Are: Everywhere Present. (Ps. 46:1; Jer. 23:24; Mat. 28:20; Acts 17:28)

You are right here with us this instant: help us to feel You close. Teach us what it means that Your everlasting arms are under us. Help us to increase in faith enough to see You more clearly than our fears, problems, and besetting sins. Help us to cry out like Peter and tell You that we are sinking, and feel Your Hand stretched out to us pulling us out of the storm. I cry to You Lord, help me now.
