HOUR-01: THE BOOK NOT FROM THIS PLANET (Revelation 1-22)

The Book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ: The Most Well-Known, Most Unique, Most Neglected, & Most Vital  Book of the Bible

Revelation: Connects, Completes & Applies All the rest of the Bible

Revelation 1:1-8

A Personal Biblical Framework For Understanding The Bible

This is the only book of the Bible exclusively devoted to SHOW Jesus Christ as He is now and forever. “The Revelation of Jesus Christ…”

This is the only book of the Bible exclusively given to PREPARE each believer of every generation for FULFILLING God’s PURPOSE for their life. “…which God gave Him to show His servants…”

Only book of the Bible exclusively written to EXPLAIN the future plans God has for the world  “…things which must shortly take place…”

How to Understand & Interpret the Bible Using the VITAL Keys of Context

The PRIMARY interpretation is based on the: Historical Context, the Geographical Context, and the Scriptural Context. When combined with the Grammatical Context, you have proper Biblical Interpretation. So, the first rule of textual interpretation is: “What did God mean when He spoke to the original recipients of that portion of Scripture?”

Seven Reminders From Jesus In Revelation 1

Revelation is God’s Book of Reminders Rev. 1:18-20 says: “Top Priority—Open Immediately.

Lesson 1: Revelation is the ONLY Book of the Bible ALL ABOUT JESUS (Revelation 1:1)

Lesson 2: We are SLAVES of GOD (Revelation 1:1) We have been bought. We are owned. We belong to Jesus Christ…

Lesson 3: We are CALLED to Keep God’s Word (Revelation 1:3)

Lesson 4: SUNDAY is The LORD’S Day (Revelation 1:10)

Lesson 5: Revelation is for Christ’s Church (Revelation 1:11)

Lesson 6: Christ’s ATTENTION is ON His Church (Revelation 1:13) There’s no guessing. There’s no confusion…

Lesson 7: Jesus’ TOP PRIORITY is the HEALTH of His Church (Revelation 1:14-16)

If you belong to Jesus, then He wants you to know two things, everything is either:  1. Pleasing to Him, or 2. Not Pleasing to Him

Seven Reminders From Jesus In Revelation 1

HOUR-02: Christ Unleashed (Revelation 1:1-11)

The Power of Jesus Christ Displayed: Wherever He went, Christ’s very Presence made sure that death fled, disease faded, and despair melted.

Broken bodies that came in contact with Jesus were mended, ruined lives repaired, sightless eyes restored, empty ears filled with sound, missing fingers returned, and hungering lives satisfied. Everywhere He went, wherever He was, whenever He was there: the Presence of Jesus meant that death, disease, and despair were no more.  But Jesus only did that from being in one place at a time.

Just One Place At a Time

The Unlimited Power of Christ Is Now Available Everywhere

Something Changed. The Power of Christ’s Presence. Jesus Solved All Problems By His Presence

What is Revelation’s Most Important Message for Believers?  HOW TO LIVE FOR GOD IN A DANGEROUS WORLD

What Mortal Dangers Did Christ Warn His Church to Beware of?

  1. Ephesus: the danger of just going through the motions.
  2. Smyrna: the danger of starting to fear.
  3. Pergamos: the danger of being comfortable around sin.
  4. Thyatira: the danger of not forsaking personal sins.
  5. Sardis: the danger of acting and operating like lost people.
  6. Laodicea: the danger of getting distracted from seeing Christ in His Word each day.

Ephesus: The Danger of Coasting. Loss of “first love” is when things get old, and we no longer desire Jesus as much as we remember that we did in the past…

Do we live like we’re part of Christ’s Special Forces that He has deployed behind enemy lines?

Imagine today you are a special forces soldier invited to your final briefing before active duty.

Today you are being sent to patrol, on foot through Afghanistan’s Taliban controlled territory.

You know there will be along each step of your patrol: snipers, landmines, remote controlled IED’s, as well as RPG’s, 50-caliber machine gun nests, thousands of terrorists, and all in the scorching desert heat.

The Commanding Officer giving these LAST WORDS for you before you go, has already made this patrol hundreds of times; and HE is the only one who ever has made it back, unscathed by the enemy.

At the briefing HIS personally written field manual for battlefield survival will be explained, plus the key elements of the body armor will be shown, explained, and fitted. Also, the ONLY weapon for offense will be demonstrated and ammunition will be issued.

Wow, wouldn’t every one of us being deployed, be there in the front row? We’d all be taking notes, staying after asking questions, helping each other as fellow soldiers getting geared up, and working together for our mutual survival.

Yet today, most of the Special Forces (that’s us as believers)…. Deployed by the Lord (that’s the Great Commission)…. Into the harsh and deadly territory of Satan the master terrorist (the god of this world): Are riding around like they are on vacation, Like sitting ducks, riding in the open seats atop a double decker tour bus, Driving through enemy territory.

No daily preparation (pray without ceasing), No body armor (take up the full armor of God), No attendance at the briefings (assembling of yourselves together), No ammunition (but by every Word of God), and No weapons (the sword of the Spirit) in sight.

The daily casualties are horrific as you can imagine, Many wounded soldiers are strewn along the road, Most have flaming darts burning in their unprotected lives, Most are incapacitated and no longer on their mission. Only a few seem to be at the briefings, reading and using the manual, and following the Commanding Officer each day. That is what Jesus found on His visit to His Special Forces bases (the 7 churches in Rev. 1-3).

Are any of us just going through the motions, no longer passionate for Jesus like we used to be?

Are any of us starting to fear how bad the world is getting?

Are any of us getting comfortable around sin, and no longer forsaking personal sins?

Are any of us acting and operating like lost people, and because we’re so distracted, we’ve stopped even seeing Christ in His Word each day?

Beware of:  coasting, just going through the motions, not passionate for Jesus like we used to be; starting to fear our future, our health, our safety; getting comfortable around sin, amusing and entertaining ourselves with sin, and not fleeing sin; getting truth-challenged; acting & operating like lost people; so distracted that time with God in His Word is gone from our daily vitals.

Unwrapping Jesus Christ: As He is Now (Revelation 1:9-13)…Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the seven lampstands

One like the Son of Man, clothed with a garment down to the feet and girded about the chest with a golden band…Jesus’ Favorite Word for Himself (Rev. 1:12-13)

Jesus, Our Great High Priest: We couldn’t go to God, so God came to us.

Revelation is God’s Reminder to Us: Nothing God says in this book is only said here, just here, for the first time.

Understanding Jesus’ Greatest Miracle & Our Greatest Need. Revelation 1:5—Our greatest need isn’t happiness, It’s forgiveness.

We are EACH called to OFFER Christ’s GREATEST MIRACLE to Our Generation. My Friend Daniel

Sin Has Consequences: The Jungle Doctor WhoGot Infected with Bitterness

No Matter How Many Steps we Take Away from God: It Is ALWAYS Only One Step Back (Repentance)

Ephesus’ Spiritual Heart Condition (Revelation 2:1-7)

Ephesus appeared to be thriving. Jesus wasn’t first in their schedules, in their concentration, and that signaled: He was no longer the supreme ruler of their hearts and lives. The bottom line: Jesus didn’t take first place in their lives. Their heart didn’t belong solely to Him. The prognosis was simple: REPENT.

Pergamos’ Spiritual Immunity Problems (Revelation 2:12-17): Our Spiritual immunity is compromised when we as believers, as God’s own people, are comfortable around what God hates.

Laodicea’s Materialism-Induced Blindness (Revelation 3:14-22)

They were DISTRACTED: The Laodiceans had every advantage, but they were so focused on everything that didn’t matter, they could no longer see the one thing that did matter. Not hot, not cold, just lukewarm, going along avoiding the really big sins and living the American dream.

Okay. Let’s talk about the Grace of God (Titus 2:11-13)

When The Great Physician Examines My Life…Jesus has found five potentially fatal conditions in His bought-and-paid-for Church, and He prescribes a radical treatment plan for each: absolute, no-holds-barred repentance… Revelation 1:12-17

CHASTENING is how God TRAINS us For Righteousness (Hebrews 12:5-6)

Chastening is something you FEEL As Emotional Anxiety or Distress…

God DOESN’T see Two Classes of Christians…You can’t get to heaven unless you’ve been sanctified…Jesus has a 100% patient survival rate

Loving what God Loves; Hating what God Hates

Jesus’ admonition to Ephesus is to Love God MORE Than Everything Else (Revelation 2:4-5)

What would be burned today if the Spirit’s conviction swept our lives? The power of the early church was simply genuine holiness. Energized by grace they magnified Christ, God’s Word prevailed in their lives, and they lived consecrated lives. The Spirit of God moved unhindered, flowed unquenched and God got all the glory. No one competed for the credit, no one sought to be in control. God reigned, the Spirit moved, and Christ was magnified. The secret to a powerful life is simple: Love God Most.

HOUR-07: NORMAL CHRISTIANS—Meet Jesus’ Absolute Approval. (Philadelphia)

What is Revelation 1-22’s Most Important Message for Believers? HOW TO LIVE FOR GOD IN A DANGEROUS WORLD

The Four Truths of a FOREVER-CHANGED LIFE

Truth 1: He Who is Holy (Revelation 3:7a). This is the only attribute of God that gets the ultimate emphasis…(1 Peter 1:15-16)

Truth 2: He Who is True (Revelation 3:7b) Jesus Speaks Truth: He is the Last Word on Everything!

Truth 3: He Who Holds the Key (Revelation 3:7c) What’s the Key of David? (Isaiah 22:22). That’s the key Jesus says He holds…

Truth 4: He Who Opens & No One Can Shut (Revelation 3:7d). The first two NEVER SHUT doors . Jesus opens are: the door to eternal satisfaction & the door to eternal light.  (John 4:14; 6:35; 8:12). But the last door is the best one…the Door to Endless Life (John 8:51-52; 10:28; 11:26).

Living The Endless, Overflowing, Abundant Life of New Beginnings. My Homeless Friend (1 Thessalonians 3:13; John 7:37-39)

Jesus isn’t looking to find absolute perfection… just FAITHFULNESS. The “Normal” life Jesus offers to all believers is just an abundant, confident, joyful, guilt-free, peaceful, hope-filled, overflowing, purpose-filled: life of faithfulness.

Laodicea’s Self-Induced Spiritual Blindness: Abandoning Christ as Their Investment Counselor  (Rev. 3:17-18)

The Eight Dangers of Too Much Stuff: Investment Advice from the World’s Richest Man (Ec. 5:10-15)

Lesson-1: The more stuff we accumulate, the more stuff  we will want. “He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver;” (v. 10a).

Lesson-2: The more stuff we grasp on to, the less satisfied we become. “Nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity.” (v. 10b).

Lesson-3: The more stuff we own, the more stuff everyone tries to get from us. “When goods increase, They increase who eat them; ” (v.11a).

Lesson-4: The more stuff we pile up, the less of it we can really use. “So what profit have the owners except to see them with their eyes?” (v. 11b).

Lesson-5: The more stuff we build up, the more we worry about our stuff. “The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, Whether he eats little or much; But the abundance of the rich will not permit him to sleep.” (v. 12).

Lesson-6: The more stuff we hold tightly, the more we get injured from holding onto it. “There is a severe evil which I have seen under the sun: Riches kept for their owner to his hurt.” (v. 13).

Lesson-7: The more stuff we keep, the more stuff we can lose. “But those riches perish through misfortune;” (v.14a).

Lesson-8: The more stuff we clutch, the more stuff we must leave behind. “When he begets a son, there is nothing in his hand. As he came from his mother’s womb, naked shall he return, To go as he came; And he shall take nothing from his labor Which he may carry away in his hand.” (v.15).

Beware of Self-Induced Spiritual Blindness (2 Peter 1:8-9)

Choices that Strengthen Our Focus upon God

  1. Make a choice to: Read God’s Word before Social Media or any online activities each morning. That choice reflects Christ’s Words in Matthew 6:33 “Seek FIRST the Kingdom of God”.

  1. Make a plan to: Create an intentional place of solitude, so that you can not only read God’s Word, but also avoid any distractions until you can prayerfully apply the lesson you found: into your own life. That is the MOST VITAL part of each day’s devotional time. Jesus called this in Matthew 4:4 “living by every word of God”.

  1. Decide you will start a new habit to: Pray or meditate on a verse instead of listening to music for 15 minutes a day as you walk, drive, or ride. This can transform our travel time into an altar of sacrifice to God. Many of us are all alone as we travel except that Someone else is there, often sitting right next to us. God is waiting for us to talk to Him, invite Him into our day and JUST BELIEVE that He tags around with us everywhere we go.

  1. Take the huge step of fasting from the ultimate distraction of Media: Skip a day of going online, and of Social Media as a fast to prove you are not controlled by anything; and INSTEAD memorize one verse to meditate upon that feeds your soul.

  1. Finally, ask the Lord if He is able to give you ENOUGH of His grace for you to: Have a no-TV, no video, no Social Media, no gaming week or month and see if you can study through an entire book of the Bible or read a great Christian classic.

Why do I sometimes Not FEEL like Getting Into the Word?

How can I tell Whether I am: Spirit-Led or Flesh-Led?

Spirit-Led    vs.    Flesh-Led

  • What are the 17 Attitudes & Actions of the flesh (Gal. 5:19-21)
  • Indicators of the Flesh (Eph. 4:25-5:7)
  • Which are we surrendering to each day? (Rom. 6:11-22)

Fruit of Spirit    vs.    Works of Flesh

  • Attitudes: anger, wrath, anxiety, fear, lust, selfish, irritated, bitter
  • Actions: lying, stealing, immoral, lazy, sarcastic, erratic, restless, self-focused

The Spirit-Led Life: These attitudes, actions & emotions are revealed: peace, joy, hope, love, boldness, holiness, passion, sensitivity, self-sacrificing, hunger for Word, hatred of sin.

The Flesh-Led Life: These attitudes, actions & emotions are revealed: anxiety, fear, selfishness, lethargy, disinterest in Word, no passion for the lost, irritable, bitter, moody.

A Spirit-Led Mind: Rom. 7; Gal. 5; Eph.  5; Col. 3

The Flesh-Led Life A Spirit-Quenched Mind: (Eph. 4:30; 1 Th. 5:19) no stability, no boldness, no insights,      no hunger, no joy, aimless, no confidence, empty

The Doctrine of the Creation of Angels

A Preview of Hell—Relentless Terror (Rev. 9:3)

The Fearsome Symbol of the Locust (Rev. 9:5-6)

Each of the angels we read about in God’s Word has power that exceeds anything we can humanly understand as possible by the laws of the physical world that we know.

God is Absolutely, All-Powerfully, Greater Than Everything: that is Anywhere

Angels are Supernatural & Super Powerful Creatures: As far as we know the angelic creatures are indestructible, they can’t be killed or destroyed. They travel the universe effortlessly, with no spaceships. They seemingly never rest, or sleep, or even need to eat.

Our God is Greater than the Sum of All He Created: Universe + Earth + Spiritual World

Angels & Demons

  • The Cherubim
  • The Archangels
  • The Flames or Seraphim
  • Angels

Angels & Demons

  1. The Angel of Light;
  2. The Destroyer;
  3. The Horrible Monsters of the Destroyer;
  4. The Doomed Angels;
  5. The Nation Princes;
  6. The Principalities, Powers, the Rulers of the darkness of this age, Spiritual hosts of wickedness;
  7. The Demons.

Note Just The Power of the Destroyer (Exodus 12:23; 2 Samuel 24:15-17; 1 Corinthians 10:10; Revelation 9:11). The angel’s name is actually Destroyer (Hebrew: Abaddon; Greek: Apollyon)

The Big Picture: God is Absolutely Powerful: Fear not, but resist, the powers of darkness. The battle is already won. Jesus Christ has triumphed. We are more than conquerors through Christ.

Read the Word (Mt. 4:4)

Meditate on the Word (Jer. 15:16)

Why is Scripture Memorization SO Vital to our Lives as Faithful Believers?

Reason-1: Because its the ONLY Source of Inextinguishable Joy & Hope (Jeremiah 15:16)

Jeremiah was probably the MOST depressed, discouraged, and hopeless person described in the Bible according to Lamentations 3:1-20

Jeremiah 15:16 (NKJV)

Your words were found (devotion), and I ate them (meditation), And Your word was to me the joy & rejoicing of my heart (transformation);

For I am called by Your name (identification), O Lord God of hosts.

TRANSCRIPT

The book, not from this planet.

We’re studying the book of Revelation, which is the most, as you see on your slides, the book, that’s not from this planet. What I mean by that is that God, gives us the book of Revelation, much like a movie that pulls together, all the individual prophetic scenes that are in all the rest of the Bible. Just as said in the Pentateuch in Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy: that God was going to send His son; He was going to crush Satan; that God’s chosen people of promise would suffer. That is played out in the book of Revelation and in Job where we see the conflict between Satan and the people of God, that is limited by God. That is just another scene that we see where it fits in the book of Revelation.

The book of Revelation is like the full-length movie where God connects together all these individual pieces, that sometimes are hard to understand individually, like what’s going on in Job, what’s going on in the Psalms. Psalm Two says that Jesus is going to rule the nations with a rod of iron. And then we see Him feeding people and being hounded, and finally crucified.  And that never happens but it does happen in Revelation and all these individual pieces and all those huge prophetic pieces that are in Isaiah and Jeremiah and Ezekiel and the minor prophets. And then Jesus himself telling us in His Olivette discourse, all of His prophetic sermons about the future. Where does that fit in the gospels? It doesn’t clearly show us, but again, in the book of Revelation, every one of these individual scenes that are recorded flawlessly, under the inspiration of God are connected together.

So, we can say the book of Revelation is a book, not from this planet. The book of Revelation is the most well-known, the most unique, and the most neglected book of the Bible.  It’s also the most vital.

This book is primarily a book revealing Jesus Christ and that’s the goal of this course. Not to fully examine all these pieces, those are all parts of other courses, but to see where they fit is our goal. Most of all, to reveal Jesus Christ.

Revelation connects, completes, and applies all the rest of the Bible.

All of the rest of the Bible is connected, completed and applied.

We could put it this way, that the outline of the scriptures has shown us by the three parts of the sermon that Paul gives. In fact, in Acts chapter 17, the apostle Paul shares the gospel in three parts:

  • He talks about the creator;
  • He talks about the Redeemer;
  • and then He says that He’s coming back as the Judge.

And as you see Genesis One and Two describes the Creator. And then, from Genesis Three and the fall of man, all the way through Revelation Five, we see Him as Redeemer. And then in Revelation, Six to 22. He comes back as the judge, as described in the Psalms, as beautifully illustrated in the prophets. Jesus baffled His opponents and the gospels saying that there was coming a day when they would see the Son of Man coming on the clouds. And all judgment was given to him. Then of course, everything that the apostle Paul, Peter, and James said about Jesus as the judge.

Well, what do these three parts of Acts 17 tell us?

That the creator means, we’re designed by him…which tells us about our origin, which basically is how did I get here?

Did you know, everyone kind of in the back of their mind wonders about this:

  • they wonder about where they came from.;
  • they wonder why they’re here;
  • what’s the purpose of life, and that only is revealed when we meet our Redeemer.

Jesus said He bought us for himself, that we could be His creations and then our destiny.  People want to know where they came from, why they’re here? How’s all this going to end? Our destiny is that we’re answering to someone for our lives and He is the judge.

Let’s begin this course by reading Revelation and, in your personal copy, whatever form of a copy of the word of God you have, open to those.  In Revelation, Chapter One, we’re going to read the first eight verses, and then we’re going to pray and ask God to bless this course revealing Christ, that He would use this course in our reading to connect together all of these pieces that make this movie that’s so visual in Revelation, but most of all, to reveal Jesus Christ to us.
