Have you ever noticed how clearly God personally communicated with the characters of Christmas? God explains things to them, shows them when and where to go, warns them of dangers, and arranges amazing meetings for them. What a wonderful way to live with God communicating so clearly & powerfully.
God surrounded the Birth of His Son with some of the most hope filled passages in the Bible.
The story of Christmas is an inspired collection of pictures captured by God for our learning, in His Word.
Each one of the details we know of Christ’s Birth are intimate scenes experienced by only a few, and for just a moment; but enjoyed by all of God’s children ever since.
Before we move too far on from Christmas in this new year, open with me please, to Luke 2:8-20.
As we open in our Bibles to the Gospel by Luke, chapter 2, we are continuing to look at Practicing Biblical Humility. God provides us with one of the most beautiful portraits of humility in this so well-known account from Christ’s birth. Look at the elements God uses to make this portrait of humility:
Remember What He Said to You?
The Resurrection Message Jesus Gave By His Seven Words from the Cross
Christmas is when God announced that Hope had arrived.
God wrapped His Hope in a Person so that we could see God’s love, compassion, mercy, and forgiveness.
Hope has a Name and it is Jesus.
Hope comes with promises that are completely attached to that Person.
Have you met Jesus?
As we open to Luke 24, we are joining those disciples on the first Resurrection Sunday, who loved Christ with all their hearts. Luke captures the fullest account of the first moments of Resurrection morning in v. 1-8.

We are looking one-by-one at the Spiritual Living Lessons that new believers need to have personally taught to them by older believers.
Saved: We have seen salvation as portrayed across the pages of Acts by those early Apostles & disciples.
Scripture-Fed: Then we examined the Scriptures and the link between salvation through the Word and spiritual nurture by daily feeding upon the Word.
We are studying what it means to walk through life in step with the Spirit of God. There is nothing complicated about life as a believer, it is just staying under the direction & control of the Spirit. When we do so we can live the most amazing life possible, the life God desires us to live. This morning as we look at Mary there is one truth we need to notice:
The closer we get to the end of days, the more we need the bright hope of the early church that radiated from the catacombs and arenas of persecution to radiate from our lives today.
As we open to Luke 21 we find Jesus explaining how to impact our lost world for Him on a daily basis. We can make a choice, that makes our life able to powerfully display Him to a watching world; and that choice is to live in hope. When we live in hope we redeem our time. Daily life when filled with hope makes every moment count for eternity.
As an eight year old, I will always remember learning one word in the sign language of the deaf—the Bible was the “Jesus” (signed by nail prints in hands) “Book” (signed by hands, palms together and then opening like a book)”.
What a perfect way to portray, describe, and express the truth of God’s Word. Our Bibles really are, and should always be to us: the Jesus Book.
The Jesus Book
While here on Earth Jesus lived out the God’s Word, spoke God’s Word, used the God’s Word, and affirmed God’s Word. Central to we believe is this Jesus Book. In fact, after Christ’s Resurrection He came back and taught a small class on “How to Understand the Bible”, He had two students and a recording of His lesson remains for us in Luke 24. As we open there, listen as Jesus explains to ordinary people, the extraordinary content of the Book we hold in our hands today. Luke 24:25-45:
Tonight in Luke 22:24 we go back to THE Lord’s Supper, by that I mean the first, the original, and the model for us from Jesus Christ Himself to us His Church.
On this night of the first Lord’s Supper, Jesus models an attitude what we must choose to have each time we come to His Table.
The Problem They Faced
