Godly Wives: Love Their Husbands With Love They Can Feel

There is only one chapter in the New Testament that explicitly describes God’s expectations for every man, every woman, every boy, and every girl who are part of Christ’s Church, and that is Titus 2.

As we turn there this Mother’s Day morning, each of us in our hearts hold such a special place for our moms. But whether you are a mom or not, married or not, or even if you are a part of the half of us who are men—the passage we are going to in God’s Word speaks to all of us.

Titus 2’s verses are a message from God to every man and woman, boy and girl in Christ’s Church. This morning we are specifically going to examine what God has set down as a pattern that every woman should have as the goal of her life.

Godly Mothers: In Partnership With God Love Their Children

This morning we are right in the middle of looking at godly wives and mothers. Our theme this morning is that godly moms are in partnership with God and they love their children with love that can be felt.

But before we plunge into those Titus 2 methods of loving husbands and children with love they can feel, a quality that God wants every wife and mom to know and practice, we need to turn to the book of I Thessalonians 4 and ask, “Why are we even here studying God’s Word today? What is the bigger picture of what God wants from all of us.”

The Delights of a Word-Filled Wife and Mother

One of the great blessings in life comes from knowing what God wants you to do and doing it. That way of life Jesus described as His chosen path. He once said that He delighted in doing God’s Will.

For us who know and love the Lord, life is a delight. We know why He made us, what we are to do for Him, and so we face each new day knowing that the Lord is with us, His strength is ours, and His smile is upon us. Like Jesus we delight to follow His plan.

God commends to us the sheer delight that comes to wives and mothers who follow His plan. Paul tells us that they are catapulted to the front ranks of God’s most decorated servants I Timothy 2:15)—just through the obedience of nurturing children for the glory of God.

Nurturing Love Resists the Bitterness that Hinders Wives and Mothers

God’s high calling for Titus 2 women of grace, is for them to express love that their husbands and children can feel. To most of us mature 21st century believers that may sound wonderful. To them it must have sounded impossible. As we open to Ephesians 4, think about how hard it has always been to live pleasing to God, in this ungodly world.

The Cretans of Paul’s day lived in an ego-centered, selfish society that knew and cared little about forgiveness. Roman society became so decadent that it saw forgiving people as weak and unforgiving ones as strong. Cretans celebrated vengeful gods and exalted as heroes those who took vengeance on others. The result was a society so much like America today—filled with bitterness, vengeance, anger, hate, and hostility.

To Love Their Children – Choosing Nurturing Love in a Loveless World

Tagged With: / The 21st Century Woman of Grace-Redone

On Christ’s last night with His disciples, He said in John 13 that believers would be known by their love for each other. This type of love is supernatural, prompted by grace, empowered by the Spirit, and modeled by godly mature saints. Christ’s church was built from the start with this powerful nurturing love.

Paul wrote Titus saying that God desires to see all mothers expressing to their children. But this love is not merely found in Titus 2:4, this nurturing love of closeness, friendship, and tender care is the very same love with which God built Christ’s church from the very start.

That They Admonish – Investing My Life in Others in a Detached World

This is the final quality God desires to see in every older woman of grace, which describes their lifestyle of admonishing, encouraging, or calling others to realize what God has clearly stated they are supposed to do.

This quality is God’s call for women of grace to wise living, encouraging counsel, discreet or focused living, and restraining life choices. In the English-speaking world, when we see someone doing something totally unprofitable, that shows they are oblivious to something far greater they should be doing there is an expression that goes something like: ‘you are just arranging deck chairs on the sinking Titanic’.

Obedient to Their Husbands – Pursuing Submission in a World Filled with Rebellion

Submission in Biblical terms is when we submit to wanting God’s way.

Since the Garden of Eden, and mankind’s Fall into sin—we humans have wanted our own way.

In Matthew 6, Jesus reduced life to one simple goal—seeking God’s rule over each day of our life.

Remember Christ’s simple yet powerful words? Please open there with me:

Pursuing Kindness in a World Filled with Harshness

Tagged With: / The 21st Century Woman of Grace-Redone

Life is full of many cares, struggles, and responsibilities, so God has kept the most important things very simple. There was only one word the Spirit of God inspired Paul to write, to describe all that will last from our entire life on earth.

One word at Christ’s Throne is all that sums up anything enduring, eternal, and pleasing to God. What will be the test Christ uses to determine each person’s eternal rewards? It is whether their words, actions, thoughts, and motives were good in God’s sight.

As we open to Titus 2:5 we find that this is the very same word we saw describing the Judgment Seat of Christ. God says everything is reduced to this word: “good” or the other word: “bad or good for nothing”.

Homemakers – Pursuing Homemaking in a World Filled with Homelessness

Tagged With: / The 21st Century Woman of Grace-Redone

Our world is filled with homelessness. Not so much a lack of shelter for living and sleeping—but a lack of godly nurturing at the most basic level of the Christian home. To battle homelessness in the church God has called each married woman to accept His call to be a homemaker for His Name and Glory.

This morning just as for the past 20 centuries, God offers to every married woman in Christ’s Church the privilege of capturing each moment she spends in her home: whether a tent, a house, an apartment, or a palace—and turning those moments into eternal crowns she can someday cast at Christ’s feet.

Chaste – Pursuing Biblical and Godly Modesty in an Unbiblical and Ungodly World

Salvation is described as being clothed with Christ’s righteousness; and the Christian life is portrayed as putting on Christ each day. So each of us here today are literally, as believers: Clothed with Christ.

With that in mind, would any of these descriptions portray Christ’s appearance as presented in God’s Word, if He were here ministering in this 21st Century culture? Do you think Christ ever chose to dress in a way that was provocative, sensual, or revealing of the areas of His Body that God’s Word says need to be covered?

Do you think He would ever choose to appear “skimpily-attired”, short skirts, short shorts, or with sexually arousing outfits? Do you think Jesus could ever be described as: hot, immodest, alluring, edgy?

Discreet – Choosing to Focus on God in a Foolish World

In Titus 2, the first word of v.5 calls each of us to pay attention to our own, personal, spiritual mental health, for God’s sake.

There are only two mental health providers in the Universe:
• the first One says that He came to give Life that is Abundant; and
• the other one came only to kill, steal, and destroy.

At salvation we go from the destroyer’s control to Christ Jesus’ life that is endless and abundant. However, we still live in fallen human bodies, in a cursed and sinful world.

That means that for all of God’s born-again children, Christ Jesus only has two categories that He uses to rate everything we do, as He sorts out the constant stream of activities His children do in life.

Each of us live out our life in front of God, like a pipeline:

Poured out
Before God

Have you ever thought about that? Our lives are like a pipeline stretching up into Heaven that spews out every action, thought, and motive at Christ’s feet.

When we gather as we do today, and open God’s Word, we are asking Him to speak to us. Sometimes what we hear touches on a small part of our lives, other times what He says is huge. This morning, the topic we have arrived at to study is HUGE.

The only way to understand the gravity of what we are hearing from God’s Word today is to go to where it will matter. Open with me to the end of the Bible, Revelation 4.

Through all the centuries the single greatest deterrent to sin and motivator to holiness has always been the thought of standing at last in Heaven. Revelation 4:6, 9-11 (NKJV):

Loves Her Children – Nurturing Love in a Loveless World

As we open to Titus 2:4 we are focusing on the second priority God desires in all younger women. God has called for all women of grace to be characterized by love. But never forget that we are looking back into a world where so few had ever known or felt real, Biblical love. The New Testament church was born into the culture of Rome.

The culture of Rome, and even to every person living where this letter to Titus arrived, on the island of Crete was a world framed by mighty armies, where daily life was lived around over-powering architecture, when most cities were fed by aqueducts with gravity-defying engineering, and with Emperors known for their absolute life and death power. So most people had grown up:

As we open to Titus 2, at this very moment, Satan is roaming the Earth trying to mess up God’s plan. His methods of attack are very focused, and are revealed in God’s Word by his many names. Each of Satan’s well-known names describes a facet of his evil plan. He is called:

• Lucifer the Cherub who fell because he proudly wanted to share in God’s glory;
• Satan the constant Adversary of God’s plans and people;
• The Serpent from of Old who deceived Eve in the Garden of Eden;
• The Dragon who relentless seeks to destroy Israel the Chosen People of God;
• The Deceiver who enslaves the minds and hearts of the whole world;
• The Murderer from the Beginning who came to kill, to steal, and destroy; and
• The Roaring Lion who seeks to devour the unsuspecting believer.

Regeneration

Tagged With: / Gift of Salvation

As we open to Titus 3, we are looking at the miracle of our salvation called spiritual regeneration.

The gift of salvation has seven key elements, and we have examined forgiveness and justification. We now come to regeneration. Regeneration is a word that is much wider than the Bible, or theology, it is a part of the everyday world around us.

re·gen·er·a·tion (rĭ-jĕn’ə-rā’shən) n.
The act or process of regenerating or the state of being regenerated.
Biology. Regrowth of lost or destroyed parts or organs.
Theology. Spiritual or moral revival or rebirth.
